Ease into 2026 - Don't make the same mistake as I did!

That first session back after a few weeks off can feel… humbling.

The kettlebell that felt manageable before Christmas suddenly feels heavier.

The reps you flew through in November now take a bit more effort.

And your body might be reminding you that it’s been enjoying late nights, christmas sandwiches (do people really eat mince pies?!), and sitting down a little more than usual! The normal routine is gone!

That’s normal.

If you haven’t trained much over the last few weeks, you probably won’t lift as heavy or move as fast straight away when you do go back, and that’s completely fine. It doesn’t mean you’ve “lost it”. In reality, you’ve likely held onto more fitness than you think. What’s missing is rhythm and routine, not ability and fitness (although it won’t feel like that!)

There are TWO big mistakes that people make this time of year

The biggest mistake people make at this time of year is trying to jump straight back in at full speed. Same weights. Same reps. Same expectations. That’s usually when little niggles show up. or motivation struggles when you can’t do what you did before.

And that leads to the second biggest mistake…

Having huge goals or riding that motivation wave too high heading into the New Year.

I did something similar last summer and go impatient on my journey back to fitness after a few months off nursing injuries and enjoying a small thing called my wedding… that mindset did NOT pay off as you can read on my last training blog HERE

The smarter approach?

Ease back in. Move well. Build momentum.

Worry about getting moving and building consistency rather than how much you can move!

The first week or two is about reconnecting with training, not proving anything.

Let your body warm back up to it.

Strength and confidence come back quickly when you give them a chance.

That’s exactly why we’re running a free trial of CSF Women’s Fitness Boot Camp starting tonight, Monday January 5th in Castleknock. It’s a chance to come in, move, sweat a bit, and get back into the habit without pressure.

See if the schedule, sessions and routine suit you

From January 12th, we’ll kick off a brand new challenge, and the sessions will step up naturally from there.

If you’re local, feeling that “I should get back into it” nudge, and want a welcoming place to start, come join us tonight.

No expectations. Just show up and we’ll take care of the rest.
