Saving Miserable Runs for the cookie jar

3 hour run for the cookie jar

I’ll get back to the meaning behind that in a moment. The main motivation right now to run is to build endurance in the legs for the 4x4x48 challenge that starts in 12 days time. The challenge is to run 4 miles every 4 hours for 48 hours (12 runs in total). Meaning the maximum amount of recovery time I’ll get between runs is roughly 3 hours.

I have no idea how that’s going to affect me mentally and physically as the challenge progresses. I think the adrenaline of the challenge will get me through the first night and into the Saturday ok. As I hit runs 7, 8 and 9 on the Saturday night, I feel like the challenge will truly begin.

That’s why a run like this is so important right now, for me. Because when run 9 comes around and the alarm goes off on the phone at 3:50am to get myself up for another 4 mile run, having ran 32 miles (further than I ever have before) and my mind wants me to quit, I can look back on a run like today. A run going through literally piss poor weather and heavy wind for 3 hours. And regardless of the weather that Saturday, I can rationalize that it’s only another 40 mins instead of a 3 hour run like today that I know I can do.

Whether that works for me or not, we’ll find out in 12 days time!
