Why you should change paces and distances in your running regularly

Another 5km in. Follow @anygivenrundayofficial on our updates and all things running/endurance race-related as we build towards the @edprnrmadridmaraton at the end of April.

10 secs/km faster than Tuesday, despite leg day yesterday.

Delighted with that but feeling it now. Finding the 5km tougher than the long weekend run (when I get the pace right). On the surface, that makes no sense. How in the name of Joe Montana does doing half the distance be harder?

It’s because, for me, I’m able to push harder to get to the 5km and I know I won’t be able to maintain a 4:44km pace right now. So my body and heart are working much harder in a shorter time period.
When you think about it, it’s not really too different from what @lawlesseric is doing with heart rate training.

Bottom line: don’t always keep the same paces/distances in your training. Challenge yourself, set shorter and longer distances and pace goals. Get out of your comfort zone
