The Razor's Edge

I was talking to the better half about this yesterday, about the exact point I feel in my fitness right now

Running hasn’t been huge lately, but I’m starting to feel consistent. With 3-4 gym sessions a week on top of 2-3 runs (some weeks, at least), the “swagger is starting to come back.

I’m at the point where I feel I need to push more.

I look around while coaching ABC Gym sessions and feel inspired (while also guilty) about pushing more. “That person is in 5 times a week, that person is crushing the cardio challenge, that person… actually, they could do with another 5kg each side ”

Same with the coaches, shout out to Bradley with sub 20 5k and 100 unbroken wall balls, Niamh out lifting damn near everyone yesterday, Roisin, an absolute pillar of consistency and doing training the right way, about to crush another 10k race. And Phil… yeah, he’s a coach as well

I’m guilty of comparing when I should know better.

But I’ve been at this fitness level before…

And I push too hard, neglecting the recovery and signs to pull back before ending up injured again

Those signs appeared yesterday, so an early morning conditioning session was switched to impact-free intervals on a bike.

The irony of this blog… I did want to see where I was at for a 23-24k run today. Took off too hot, completely misjudged the distance, hit a wall near 23km… 4 km from the house

3k “cool down” and 1k walk to type this post about the thoughts in my head, time management, recovery and how much I can truly push over the next 2 months or so and fit everything else in… including a much needed @ultrapurelabs Epsom salts bath tonight!

Above all else, absolutely loving the training right now, just have to be smart with it

One week to Spartan 21k, let’s not do anything stupid on race week… again!
