“Allow me to reintroduce myself”

“Allow me to reintroduce myself”

After spending the morning coaching in the gym, I had not one, but two sessions coaching today that involved running (not to mentioning editing and pushing today’s Any Given Runday Official podcast).

And then I did my own session afterwards before I got into the sauna.

To distract me from the heat, it got me thinking about how I ended up coaching running and the path I have taken.

This marathon journey was supposed to be a one and done back in 2017. But I’m signed up to my 4th one in April as well as doing the KBC Dublin Marathon again in October which could possibly be a yearly event for me.

I’m starting to enjoy my running more. I’m not at the “love it” stage. And I’m sure you could find posts where I say “I hate running” or cardio is not a great way to burn fat in comparison to strength training.

But a combination of that can work. And I still feel that you should definitely be doing some form of strength training (even bodyweight) to compliment your running and reduce the chances of injury.

I would have been dead set against the treadmill a few years back but, it can have its place... I still hate seeing people walk normally up to a treadmill and then hold on at the same pace!

In short, running has helped me set future goals and motivated me in the gym. No matter the training you choose, there should be a strong “why” and end goal in mind for those days you don’t want to do anything
